At Layers of Change, we are deeply committed to providing safe, supportive, and compassionate spaces for LGBTQIA2S+ individuals. We recognize that unique challenges exist for transgender and gender-nonconforming (TGNC) people, whether they are seeking to heal from trauma or navigate recovery from substance use. To address these needs, we offer two core support groups: LGBTQIA2S+ Support Group for Survivors of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) and Sexual Violence (SV) and Transformed in Recovery, both of which focus on building a community rooted in shared experiences, respect, and healing.
We cannot do this important work alone.
Layers of Change relies on the support of our community to continue providing these vital services. Whether through donations, volunteering, or spreading the word, your contribution helps us reach more individuals in need of healing and recovery. If you are able, please consider making a donation via Zeffy to help us maintain and expand our services.
LGBTQIA2S+ Support Group for Survivors of IPV and SV

Starting this fall, Layers of Change is collaborating with Safe Harbor to provide a weekly support group specifically for LGBTQIA2S+ survivors of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) and Sexual Violence (SV). This group offers survivors a space to share their stories, connect with others who have had similar experiences, and receive emotional support from trained facilitators.
Key Features:
Safe Space: A confidential environment where members can feel comfortable expressing themselves without judgment.
Emotional Support: Compassionate facilitators and peers are available to help members navigate the complex emotions that come with trauma.
Resource Sharing: Information on coping strategies, community resources, and self-care practices is provided.
Community Building: Members are encouraged to be part of a community that values and affirms their identities and experiences.
Topics Covered:
Trauma Healing
Building Resilience
Intersectionality
Healthy Boundaries
This group is co-facilitated by Sonja Paviour, MSW, and Val Hogan, PRS, both of whom are dedicated to providing trauma-informed care for survivors. We welcome anyone who identifies as LGBTQIA2S+ and has experienced IPV or SV to join us for these healing sessions. Transformed in Recovery
Transformed in Recovery is a group specifically designed for transgender and gender-nonconforming (TGNC) individuals who are navigating the recovery journey. We recognize that TGNC individuals often face significant barriers in traditional recovery settings, including discrimination, stigma, and a lack of understanding.
This group offers a welcoming, inclusive environment where all beliefs and paths to recovery—whether harm reduction or abstinence—are respected.
Why It Matters:
TGNC individuals face unique challenges when it comes to recovery, and there is a clear need for a space where they can feel truly accepted and supported. At Transformed in Recovery, we aim to fill this gap by fostering discussions and community support through:
Inclusive Environment: We honor every individual’s path to recovery, respecting harm reduction and abstinence equally.
Meaningful Conversations: Using tools such as tarot cards to kickstart group discussions, we dive into topics that are relevant to recovery and personal growth.
Meeting Details:
Location: Diversity Thrift, Classroom 2
When: Fridays at 5:30 PM
Whether you're just beginning your recovery journey or looking for continued support, Transformed in Recovery offers a place where you can connect with others, feel understood, and build a network of support that truly values who you are.
